Studies show that one of the biggest impacts on literacy rates is access to books in the home. Adding just one more book to a child’s home library can make a huge difference in their literacy skills and academic performance.
In a perfect world, all 217,000 children in our Library District could regularly visit the library and have access to early literacy services. The reality is that thousands of those children may never visit a library or have books to call their own. So, Mid-Continent Public Library comes to them through visits to classrooms, daycare centers, apartment complexes, and outreach events. MCPL staff give away more than 15,000 books a year to help children in disadvantaged areas build their home libraries.
With a donation to the Forever Book Fund, you can provide books for children and make a lasting difference in their lives.
